My New Do

Last month I blogged about how unhappy I was with my current hairdresser, and that it was time for a change.  I had actually made an appointment at a new establishment, with a male stylist.  However, for several years now, I have been hearing about a very talented young hairdresser who is the sister of my sons' best friend.  She has worked at a variety of shops, had a baby about a year ago, and has purchased a house with a mini salon space.  Instead of going to the man recommended by someone else, I decided to give Steff a try.  We texted back and forth while I described my hair (gray and purple and short), my expectations (not in my eyes and not scruffy) and set a date.

I made the best decision!  I am so pleased!  Today my hair is a deep burgundy, basically the colour of a fine red wine, with a splash of grape Kool-Aid thrown in.   I know it sounds a little schizo, but it suits me perfectly.  I love to try new things, and I have never been this colour before.  I've been royal purple, fuschia, magenta, and blue but never garnet.  It matches my glasses, brings out my complexion and generally suits me pefectly.  It's a new colouring process also, and I'm hopeful that it won't rub off or fade as quickly as other products I have used.  I'm already playing with the idea of putting bright red streaks in next time I need a touch up.  Anything for a change, you know.

I'm also pleased with the cut.  Steff maintained the asymmetrical cut but increased the area where my bangs are, so hopefully my hair doesn't hang into my eyes.  I can't really describe it in words, but everything seems to just fall into place after a blow dry without using tons of product, so I think I can reproduce the style at home.

We're enjoying a real warm spell for the next few days, and there is nothing like a new hair cut and colour to make a girl feel like Spring.  I may just phone my husband at work to see if he'll take a new woman out for dinner.
