Winter Days

I know a very talented photographer.  Her name is Alicia Lawson, and you can follow her adventures through http://abandoned-echoes.tumblr.com/
This website contains some of the many photographs that Alicia has taken and will give you an insight into her style.  Many of her images are as a result of her explorations of abandoned and derelict buildings.  Of all her pictures, I particularly love the ones that are textural.  Alicia has an amazing eye for detail and the beauty that exists in the most unexpected places.

You may have noticed a photograph of winter trees (Day 2) at the top of my blog.  Alicia has undertaken a 365 Project, and will be taking a photo every day in 2012.  She has created a blog for people to follow her progress at http://dustandbones.blog.com/.  I am going to randomly select one of her photos and post it at the top of this blog, because I love the photographer as well as her photography.  Alicia is my niece.

The winter trees picture reflects my mood today, as it is grey and cloudy and the temperature is dropping.  We didn't get the snow that we were promised last night, and all the water that was standing around has turned to ice.  Not a good day for walking or driving, and no hope of snowshoeing in the foreseeable future.  I ran all the necessary errands this morning, after pilates class, so I can relax.    When I got to the cashier at my last stop, I realized that I had left my debit card at the previous store.  I was able to pay cash for the groceries but then I had to retrace my steps.   Fortunately, because of my purple hair and my awesome owl hat (subject for another blog) the cashier recognised me and I had no problem retrieving it.  She had tried to follow me to the parking lot, but had been unable to see where I had gone.  Just a minor blip on Friday 13th, certainly not something to get bent out of shape about.

Today I am switching between two very different books.  "No Proper Lady" by Isabel Cooper is the story of a women from the future returning to England in 1888 to kill the man who is responsible for summoning the demons who destroy the world in her time.  It's a mix up between future and history, a very light hearted romance.  Although I'm only about one third through the book, it is following romantic guidelines and is going to reach a very predictable outcome.  I'm also reading "The Girl Who Disappeared Twice" by Andrea Kane.  This is the story of a high-tech agency who combines intuition, behaviourism as well as technology to catch criminals that the police and FBI cannot.  It is very tense and edgy, and I have no idea what is going to happen next.  I am enjoying both books, for different reasons.
