Here Comes the Sun

At last we have a forecast of sunshine for the next few days!  The sun was shining when I got up this morning, it shone when I went for a walk around the lake, and its still shining as I write this blog.  Not that I'm excited to see the sunshine, you understand.

Here are a few pictures I took while walking, very briskly, around the bay.  It was so pretty out, and quite warm when I got in and out of the car, so I didn't dress for the season.  I know better than that, too!  I had a winter jacket on, but left my hat and gloves at home, which was a big mistake.   The wind was blowing off the lake, and it felt like it was coming directly from Siberia.   I pulled my jacket hood up and over my head, stuffed my hands in the pockets and walked very fast, but was still too cold and came home quickly.  It felt great to be out, though.  There were a lot of other people out walking dogs and enjoying the sunshine, but nobody stopped to chat.

If you look very carefully, there is a man attempting to ice fish just off the point in the middle of this picture.  The city had planned a charity ice fishing tournament for next weekend, but our weather has been exceptionally warm this winter and they had to officially cancel it today.  There are usually lines of ice fishing huts that appear close to the centre of the bay around the beginning of January, and have to be removed by the middle of March.  I think this is the first year that  there are no huts on the bay either.  Truthfully, I have never understood the concept of ice fishing; to go and sit in a small shelter in the middle of the lake in the middle of winter and hope to catch a fish, but then I'm not an enthusiastic fisher in the middle of summer, either.

Here is a picture showing where our bay empties into the larger lake.  The boats are beached in front of the local rowing club, they may be in the water sooner than usual this year.   I have only seen them using the long narrow rowing sculls, but they must be stored inside the building.  It looks like a lot of fun to be out in those sculls, but I'm sure its very hard work as well.

I managed to lose my car keys last night.  Now, I have never been the kind of person who misplaces keys and such, and it really irritates me when they go missing.  I picked our son up for dinner last night, therefore I had the keys at that point.  My husband drove him home using his keys, which means that my keys were still in the house.  Well they weren't in my purse, my jacket pocket, or on the table in the hall where I always leave them.  They weren't in the basement, nor were they in the kitchen.  We have a spare set of keys so I was able to go out, but I wanted to find my own keys.  I phoned my son, and he didn't have them.  I emailed my husband at work, and he didn't have them.  Then I remembered that it had been so warm last night that I'd worn a sweater to pick up our son.  I checked the pockets, and there were my keys!  This is the second time I've lost my keys in the past 3 months.  The first time was entirely my husband's fault, in my opinion, but this time I can't blame anyone else.
